Reduce Harmful, Acidic Water Runoff from Your High Efficiency Gas Appliances

SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT

WHILE YOU SAVE YOUR PIPES

YOUR HIGH EFFICIENCY GAS APPLIANCE PRODUCES HARMFUL, ACIDIC WATER RUNOFF

pHewsafe acid neutralizer

The pHewSafe™ Condensate Acid Neutralizer offers the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) industry a safe and reliable solution for increasing, to a safe level, the pH levels of the condensate acidic by-product (carbonic acid) generated by today's highly efficient gas furnaces, boilers and hot water heaters. Typically, the condensate water by-product acidity levels will vary between 1.8 pH to 4.0 pH, which is harmful to your run off pipes and the environment. pHewSafe ™ solves this problem, simply, safely and is environmentally friendly.

pHewSafe acid neutralizer

Many states, provinces and cities across North America are now requiring HVAC companies to implement an acid neutralizer system during the installation of all high efficiency natural gas appliance.

pHewsafe acid neutralizer ph test

Testing gas furnace run off water pH BEFORE going through pHewSafe™ is highly acidic at 2.2 and AFTER going through the pHewSafe™ Condensate Acid Neutralizer is neutral at 8.9. The lower the number means higher acid content, the higher the number means more alkaline water.

pHewSafe™️ the Basics

What?

The pHewSafe™ Condensate Acid Neutralizer is a small tubular device that changes the pH of acidic water to a safe pH level for the longevity of your pipes and the protection of the environment.

Why?

The gas burning process of high efficiency gas appliances creates runoff water that is highly acidic, releasing that runoff water directly into a building's drain pipe. That acidic water, if untreated, will over time erode pipes and harm the environment.

Where?

pHewSafe™ is designed to be easily added to any high efficiency gas appliance on the appliance runoff pipe before the drain.

When?

The sooner pHewSafe™ is installed the safer your water runoff will be and the less acidic water damage to your drain pipes and the environment.

How?

pHewSafe™ is designed to be simple to install it yourself. Installation instructions are provided, or you can request us to install it for you.

Easy To Install

The pHewSafe™ Technical Story...

A 100,000 BTU natural gas heater with a 93% efficiency rating can produce approximately 3.785 liters (1 US gal) of acidic condensate per hour. This has raised environmental concerns in the US and Canada because of the adversarial corrosive effects to house drains and municipal sewer pipes where these acidic condensate producers are being discharged.

The objective of pHewSafe™ is to increase the pH levels of the condensate by-product before discharging it into the waste drain system because of the corrosive nature of acidic liquids. The pHewSafe™ will bring the acidic water to an environmentally safe and acceptable pH level to reduce the corrosive effects on drainage and sewer pipes.

Neutralization Media

We use a neutralization media which is non-hazardous and has been used for many years as an acid neutralizer. When this neutralization media is exposed to the gas appliance water condensate by-product, a chemical reaction occurs that increases the pH level of the water run off. Consumers are expected to replace their condensate neutralizer once per heating season in order to properly maintain the pH levels of their HVAC systems. There is no known issues with the neutralization media on drainage pipes or on the environment.

Product Overview

pHewSafe™ is made from 100% recyclable materials. Each pHewSafe™ contains neutralization media and is suitable for residential and light commercial applications. This inline condensate acid neutralizer has been designed to be mounted horizontally as an acidic condensate wastewater neutralizer, or at a 45 degree angle, as an acidic condensate wastewater neutralizer.

All condensate acid neutralizers should be replaced annually to maintain desirable pH levels for a cleaner and safer environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How serious is the problem?

  • Q. Is this an issue that needs immediate attention?

    A. Yes. Because today’s furnaces, boilers and hot water heaters are becoming more and more efficient, their condensate acid by-product (carbonic acid) varies between 1.8 and 4.0 pH, levels that are toxic for fish and corrosive for metal fittings encountered in our waste water systems. Acid neutralizer systems are the solution.

  • Environmentally sound?

  • Q. Is the pHewSafe™ product environmentally friendly?

    A. Yes, pHewSafe™ is made from 100% recyclable materials, and the neutralization media used in our replaceable cartridges have proven non-hazardous in many years of use as an acid neutralizer.

  • User friendly?

  • Q. How easy is it to install?

    A. It is relatively easy to install if you are a handyman, or you could hire your preferred heating contractor to install it.

The pHewSafe™ acid neutralizer provides a safe and reliable solution significantly increasing the pH levels of the acid condensate discharged by high efficiency natural gas and propane equipment. The pHewSafe™ product contains non-hazardous neutralization media as an acid neutralizer. When this neutralization media is exposed to condensate by-products, a chemical reaction occurs that increases their pH to levels that are safe for fish and the environment. Correcting the pH also protects metal fittings in all waste water systems that otherwise would be corroded by the acidic discharge.

  • How long does it last?

  • Q. Does it need to be replaced ever?

    A. It is recommended to replace the pHewsafe unit every year. The acidic water dissolves the pellets which is what works to neutralize the harmful high pH to a safe, neutral, low pH level. As the pellets reduce in size they lose their effectiveness. A great time to replace your pHewsafe™ unit is during your recommended yearly gas appliance maintenance.

  • Universal application?

  • Q. Can pHewSafe™ products be installed on all makes and models of heating appliances?

    A. Yes, our units are compatible with all high efficiency natural gas or propane furnaces, boilers and hot water heaters.

  • Required equipment?

  • Q. Are condensate acid neutralizers required on all heating equipment by plumbing and gas inspectors across Canada?

    A. Recognition of the acidic condensate problem is very recent. At this time a growing number of plumbing and gas inspectors across Canada require an acid neutralizer be installed with every high efficiency gas appliance.
